The Dreaded Steel Worm
Ol' Bert is in pretty good condition for a 35 year old van. The underside was wax oyled by the previous owner and that is holding up fine but rust is starting to be a problem on the bodywork. Living by the sea doesn't help as the salty air corodes vehicles pretty rapidly. It's something I'm going to have to address this year for certain but having just had the expense of Christmas there's no money in the kitty to get it done just yet.
Unfortunately I've noticed that there's water coming in through the holes in the wings and one side of the pop up roof lets in water if the van is facing the rain. I'm going to have to do a temporary patch up job for now just to stop the rain getting in. I've got some water proof sealant for the roof side panels and some filler to cover the holes on the wings. If that'll last for now then I can get it all done properly in the summer. Most of it I can do myself but I may need professional help to do the wings and the rain gutter above the windscreen. I'll keep you posted.
