Propshaft Problems

I had Bertie in at Fishguard Tyres recently to get the exhaust pipe checked. All ok fortunately, but while he was up on the vehicle lift I got under to inspect the underside. I discovered that the prop shaft bearing was worn right through so got on the phone to Adrian Bailey Classics in Leeds to order a new one.

It arrived while I was up in Shrewsbury attending to family matters so as soon as I got back to Pembrokeshire I went up to Jack Pontiago's garage on the way to Strumblehead Lighthouse and booked Bertie in to have the new prop shaft bearing fitted and to have the MOT test done at the same time. The soonest date I could get it done was the 15th of April so fingers crossed it'll pass with flying colours.

A very knackered prop shaft bearing has seen better days.

Repairs to Bertie

I have a friend called Paul that takes care of the mechanics of my campervan, he is a former mechanic and cut his teeth on vauxhall engines way back in the early 8o's. The power plant in Ol' Bertie is a 2.3 litre slant four petrol (gasoline) vauxhall engine. It's relatively easy to work on, easy to get parts and affordable to run. I say affordable to run, it only does 28mpg so not much economy fuel wise but parts are cheap and it's pretty reliable overall.
Recently I had an exhaust pipe bracket repaired by a local welder in Fishguard, he did a pretty good job I'd say.

Sun Rise, Sunsets and Rainbows

One of the joys of living in a campervan is that you get to experience nature close up and there is no greater joy than seeing the sun rise, the sun set and rainbows.

Sunrise in Goodwick Bay.

Sunset at Newport.

Ol' Bert is the pot of gold at the end of this rainbow.
